what's dika? and sure, i'll go to LA. anyone wanna go boarding??? the snow is melting by the minute, so i gotta get in as much as i can before it's gone. it's dropping like 2 inches a day...anybody wanna go to tahoe? we'll only have to drive to berkeley, my friend can take us the rest of the way...anyone? when the snow melts here, we'll go up there :)
i talked to eddie today (woohoo!) it's been at least a week since we talked last :( he's been really really busy, poor baby. but he said that he feels like buying something for me, and i get to pick (woohoo again!) what should i get? i think i'll just ask for something small, like a yacht or beachhouse or something :) heehee...i'm so spoiled. not just monetarily, but i'm just really lucky in general. i have a loving family, great friends, and wonderful boyfriend, what more could a girl ask for? a huge honking diamond ring?-j'k...that's for later :o) i'm in a goofy mood right now. i've been really moody lately (adam and jon can tell ya'. hong can too) i don't really know why. i think it's just all the emotional stress of being away from eddie and the stresses of living at home and the work life. i dunno...whatever. i just gotta deal with it. so apologies ahead of time to anyone i hang out with, sorry if i'm a bit moody...feel free to yell at me for it. isn't it kinda weird how all of our thoughts are there, somewhere in our heads, beliefs, questions, opinions, they're all there. but we don't know them until we actually think it out into words...
for example, say someone wants your opinion on what a hippo crossed with a giraffe would look like. you know your opinion on it, but you don't REALLY know until you're forced to think about it. actually, i'm wrong. the thoughts aren't all in there somewhere, you don't just reach in, and yank it out when necessary. you create it when necessary. hmm...well, that's weird too. not as weird as my original vision of where thoughts come from, but still weird. so you create it, out of no where, with reference to your knowledge and past experiences. BUT, you're past knowledge and experiences ARE all jumbled in there somewhere. hey, i have a question. when you forget something, is it really in your head somewhere and you just can't find it or did it really fall out? did those brain cells that were responsible for remembering that memory die? when a brain cell dies, is it his responsibility to tell the dude next to him what he's supposed to remember before dying? and how do you know where to look for the specific memory you're requesting? is it arranged by date, subject, what? do you search for it using keywords like in yahoo? how does this all work?!?! i guess that's what all those neuro-scientist peoples (neurologists?) are over there trying to figure out. i hope they let me know when they find out...i'm curious :) Tuesday, February 26, 2002
just to update everyone, my foofoo-ness is quickly fading already. i think it's just because i've been super tired the past couple days, i have no idea why, but i just can't bother with daily beauty regimens. sometimes i doubt they work anyway, it's just another way they've devised to torture us girls and to suk our wallets (and/or boyfriend/husband's wallets) dry. tsk tsk on me for falling into their trap and shame on them for taking advantage of people like me...o well.Monday, February 25, 2002
this blog is inspired by an email from connie :) this is what she wrote:"when I went to hong kong, i bought alot of cutesy sanrio-type stuff because a) it was sooo cute and b) it was sooo cheap!!...it's just tooo cute to not have!"
okay, tell me i'm not the only one. when i'm in asia, all the things that i normally think are fobby and would NEVER wear or buy, start looking cute. i was really careful not to let myself buy that kind of stuff when i was working in taiwan a couple years ago because i knew it'd just go to waste when i came back, but i've noticed from that visit, and my recent visits to hong kong, i've gotten fobbier. not drastically, i'm trying hard to resist it. one good thing though, is that everytime i go to asia, i get really inspired to improve my chinese. i was even inspired to learn japanese when i was working there because my roommate sat next to me at work and spoke japanese all day and it's just the cutest language! "mushi mushi" hahah. i love it! anyway, but when i come back, i lose that motivation :( o well. when eddie first went to hong kong, i was a little worried that i'd get a fobby boyfriend back, but it seems that i won't have to worry about that because though he's become more "asian", he's not fobby. just old and more adult-like. it's weird. i still feel like a little kid, living at home, getting taken care of, plus all my co-workers are way older, so i'm constantly still a child. for him, he's living on his own, paying his own bills, his co-workers tend to be much younger, and he has to dress up for work everyday. i asked him if he feels like an adult and he said yes. there's no way i feel even close to being a real, live adult. weird. o, but back to my question, geez, i get sidetracked easily. so, my question is, is this succeptibleness to fobiness (because i'm pretty sure i'm not the only girl who this has happened to) only a girl thing, or a girl and boy thing, and just not an eddie thing? i definitely see it applying to girls more becuase everything over there is "cute" and girls like that kinda stuff...but what about you boys? i'm turning into a foofoo. this is horrible. i dunno how long it'll last, but even if i fall out of this foofoo phase, i still won't fall all the way back to what i was before.
a foofoo, (the term came from kami), is one of those rich housewives who carry their bow-covered, perfume-drenched poodles into ritzy department stores with them while they're shopping. i'm not nearly that bad. but when i was in hk, i met one of eddie's friends who when we called her for lunch, couldn't make it because she was getting her spa treatment (the facial, body scrub, massage, the whole works). we met up with her later that night...we went to a wet market to go grocery shopping (one of those places where it's just a bunch of stands of people selling really fresh meats, seafood and produce). have any of you ever seen live shrimp??? it's so cool! there's this big bin of shrimp that look normal, like something you'd see at 99, then one just pops up! then more pop up! some pop up out of the bin and the stand owner will go down and pick it up and drop it back into the bin. it's really cool! they're so funny looking! anyway, back to my story...so we shopped and then we cooked dinner together and ate it. while she was cooking, she was talking about how she's practicing to be a "tai tai"--housewife (but was still working on the part of finding someone to be a tai tai for :P) she did the whole spa thing in the morning, shopped in the afternoon, and cooked a very delicious meal at night. she invited me to go have afternoon tea with her and everything! actually, that story doesn't contribute to my point. oops. okay, back to the point. i'm turning into a foofoo. o wait, the story sorta does apply, i knew there was a reason i wrote it. argh, i need to straighten out my thoughts, they're all over the place, sorry. where to begin? okay, my bday. (this is gonna be a long blog, sorry) i noticed before my bday that i'm getting wrinkles, especially around my eyes. my mom's been bugging me for a while that i'm not that young anymore and need to start taking care of my skin, stay out of the sun, etc. etc. well, it kinda sunk in when i saw wrinkles, and decided on my bday that i'd start taking better care of myself so that i may "age more gracefully". this includes the use of more "products", actually washing the makeup off my face at night (i'm horrible), and if any of you have noticed, my nails are gross, so that was added to my list as well.
the blog was too long, so i've split it into 2...here's the second half...
now, i ask eddie every once in a while if he thinks i'm "high maintenance" (he has never really given me an answer yet by the way). and i told him about my new resolutions and his response was that i'm training to become a "tai tai" quite nicely (this is where that story fits in). though my ultimate goal is to be a housewife, martha stewart actually, his version of "tai tai", though it'd be nice, wasn't exactly what i had in mind. but i'm starting to see what he's talking about. i have started using "products", not religiously, but trying to get into the habit. two days ago, i went to get a pedicure and manicure (these are not regular things i do, so don't get the wrong idea. i'm that not that bad, yet. it was my first pedicure ever! and it was SO nice. and my 3rd manicure ever, once for prom, once when i was in new york because eddie was working and i had nothing better to do, and this time). my excuse this time is that first of all, i had a coupon :) hahah. but seriously, i wanted to do it anyway because i needed a professional to do that initial damage repair and then i can do the upkeep myself later. so there's 2 signs of foofoo-ness. i also bought these really cute sandals the other day and am wearing them for the first time today. this is when it really hit me. i have practical excuses for all my other foofoo behaviors, but this one is just because i like it. my sandals are, hate to say it, are such foofoo shoes! i can picture a silicon-filled, makeup-caked, hair-bleached lady walking down rodeo drive in shoes that look like these (of course they'd be a lot more expensive though). and i have no excuse. i just like 'em. there are other examples too, but i won't go into them, i think i've made my point. but the good news is, i'm a lazy ass. =P doing all this upkeep takes too much time and i usually end up getting lazy and giving up and reverting back to the old ways, but never completely. i always keep some of the new habits. so, in conclusion, despite my reluctance, tai tai-ness and foofoo-ness, here i come... o, one more thing...i went to the dentist today to get my teeth cleaned and the dentist asked me if i floss and i said "no". then she said i should because me gums are bleeding. of course me gums are bleeding! you're freakin' digging your little sharp metal pokee thingee into them! duh! butt yes, she's right, i really should start flossing...but i won't :P
rice paper is so cool! i bought this candy in hk and ate it today and found that it's wrapped in rice paper! it made my day :) it's the simple things in life...Wednesday, February 20, 2002
also, just to let ya'll know...the trip to hk was great! :) eddie didn't have to work at all, except the day that i left, and i was only there for half that day anyway...so yay!
the weather was great, the food was wonderful, the sites were gorgeous, and the boyfriend was all of the above :) hahah, i'm such a mush. but for now, we have no plans to see each other again, so i have no specific day to look forward to anymore :( i think next time he's gonna try to come to the us, probably the bay area. well, i guess it's back to my normal, lonely life for now...
so we all got our bonus checks today...wooohooo! but it's so lame, everyone goes around saying to each other, "did you get your check? don't spend it all in one place..." first of all, of course i got my check, everyone did. second of all, what are you gonna do if i spend it all in one place? maybe i spend it all in one really good place, like charity. maybe i want to blow it all buying a pet hippo...big deal? actually, that'd be kinda cool :) paint if purple...hahah. anyway, i just think it's stoopid to hear the same questions being asked by everyone to everyone where there's no real answer. i've heard the question over and over and over (well technically, the second part is not a question, but the asker still expects some sort of response), and i still haven't come up with anything better to reply with than "heh heh, okay, i'll try not to..." *fake smile* oh well, at least i got $...yay!Friday, February 08, 2002
the following is part of the previous post but i guess i wrote too much and it keeps giving me an error when i try to post the whole thing together...so here you go...maybe it's a hint that i talk/blog whatever too much. o well...
so, i was telling eddie this today also. i've become a heavier packer, and i think it started since i came back to san diego. even if it's just a weekend trip or day trip to LA or something, i still bring a crap load of stuff. i was thinking at first that maybe it's because i tend to leave the packing until the last minute when i don't have that much time to analyze what i need so i just throw everything in, just in case. but i've always been sorta last minute, so that's not it. then i thought that maybe i've just gotten more indecisive...which is a definite possibility, but i don't think that's the reason for that either. now, here's the conclusion that i did come up with. these days, i don't really know why, but when i travel, instead of being grubby tourist in comfy jeans, sweatshirt and tennis shoes, i wanna look nice :) nice = more stuff. you gotta bring extra pairs of shoes with each outfit for each occassion...and shoes take up a TON of space. then you gotta bring sevaral jackets, which also are big spacer eaters, and then the actual outfits...which you don't wanna re-wear as often as the jeans and swearshirt...who cares if you wear the same jeans and sweatshirt everyday...just make sure you bring enough undies...undees. how the heck do you spell that word? undys, non of those look right. anyway...yup...that's the reason i to travel as light anymore, which is a bad thing...because i hate lugging around a lotta crap, and i'm sure eddie hates lugging around my crap for me even more :) hahah...sorry babe. i'm MUCH MUCH better this time though... okees everyone, wish me a good trip. happy chinese new year and valentine's day too in case i don't get to blog before then. oh yah, mardi gras and carnaval too! dude, have fun guys. go buy some good beads so you can see some good boobies...and yes, it even happens here in the good old gaslamp district...so enjoy yourselves :D
hahah, guess where i'm off to today!!! yup...to see EDDIE! yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
i apologize in advance if this blog is a little weird. to start off with, i'm a little delirious just from the sheer joy of getting to spend time with my beloved boyfriend :) and on top of that, i only slept about an hour and a half last nite. i leave everything to the last minute...horrible. i wanna say thank you SO SO SO much to honk, james, and ryan for all their help. i'll tell you guys later what they helped me with, just in case eddie reads these things. i wonder if he does...hmm...good thing i've only said positive things about him :) there's nothing bad to say about my baby anyway...aaaawww....am i making anyone sick yet? heehee... boarding was good...i think my brother had a miserable time though...oh well, he's gotta learn somehow...
i've noticed that lately my posts have been a little boring...i started off pretty well didn't i? now it's turned into daily routines like what i did yesterday or this weekend. by the way...i'm gonna go to hong kong this friday! woohoo! i'm excited. we're killing many birds with one stone...chinese new year, my (belated) bday, valentine's day, and our 4 year anniversary....aawwww.... :) hahah...i'm excited. but i have SO much to do before i go, at work, at home, in preparation for the trip. argh...and i can't stay up all nite before my flight like i did last time either because i'm leaving after work, so i gotta at least be awake for work. i guess that's what coffee is for... okay, now time to get out of the rut of just talking about what i did yesterday...what i wanna know today is what makes a relationship work? do some people just really click together? are some people more clickable than others? (i definitely think yes on that one) and what makes you have emotions for someone? that's the real question i wanna know. plenty of people "click", have common interests, goals, blah blah blah, but they don't hook up, they end up being good friends. like most of my friends, i of course click with them, otherwise, i wouldn't be friends with them. and i think most of 'em are pretty attractive (yes, you guys are welcome) but just don't have feelings for them (at least not the lovey dovey ones). how does this whole thing work? i know this happens a lot -- you don't have feelings for a particular person but you find out they've got them for you and then you think about it and you start having feelings for them back...how does that work?!?! are those feelings forced out because you know they have feelings and you think they're acceptable so you make yourself have feelings for them? or does knowing that they have feelings for you awaken feelings that you always had but hid either because you didn't know or were afraid of rejection. friends hook up with friends all the time, but then again, friends don't hook up with friends even more often. am i making any sense? basically, what i'm trying to ask or figure out or whatever is how do friends be friends for a long time without thinking of each other in that way for so long and then one day wake up and decide, "dude, i really like him". and when that happens, how is it that the other person (for those occassions where it actually works out), says "dude, i really like her too" around the same time so that something can happen between the two. hmmmmm...i know, not making sense, sorry. well, i better get to some of those tons of things i need to take care of before i leave to see my baby :) i'm such a sap, all my blogs that aren't about what i've been doing are about love and relationships...sappy. well, one last note...I LOVE EDDIE. HAPPY GROUNDHOG'S DAY!!!!
i just wanna say thank you to everyone who came out to play with me yesterday. it was really good seeing everyone, and i know that a lotta people really went out of their way to come down and also put aside some differences so that we could all hang out together and have fun together, so thank you very very much. i had a lotta fun and i LOVE the flowers, hippos, and pooh bear! oh, and i can't forget the wonderful piece of literature from jason :) i'm going snowboarding tomorrow!!! yay! i'm gonna take my little brother and it's pretty fresh snow...so i'm excited. wish me luck! |
